Silence is Golden

Godly wisdom is revealed in listening more than speaking.

A truly wise person uses few words; a person with understanding is even-tempered. Even fools are thought wise when they keep silent; with their mouths shut, they seem intelligent. Proverbs 17:27-28

This proverb of wisdom shows that God has a sense of humor and will even laugh at situations, but never at a person’s expense. Wise people in the Lord speak few words and are even-tempered because they spend much time listening to God’s voice in prayer and the study of His Word. The Lord trains us in his wisdom when we quietly wait on Him in prayer rather than doing most of the talking. It is easy to approach the Lord in prayer and just dump all your problems before Him. But do we stop talking and listen to Him long enough so that we can hear His voice clearly? God will give us the ability to listen to others patiently with a calm resolve even if they are accusing us with false information and lies. A proper response can only occur when we hear the entire story through the art of active listening. May the Lord bless us and give us His wisdom as we learn to listen to His voice and listen to others before giving a response. AMEN.
